Easter Holidays..... I love it, the slower pace of the days without dragging me, a porridge covered baby and a limp unwilling boy out the door for the school run!
So time so relax!............Or not!
Today I have been up since 4am with India who is teething atm. Noah is wide awake at 6am and jumping up and down on my belly.
"mummy, mummy, mummy, mummy, mummy, pretend we are underwater and theres larva and there's a storm!"
Ok now I'm wired!
I had no real plans for today and now I know it's going to be the longest day ever!
Nothing coffee can't fix!
I won't give you a blow by blow of my day, it wasn't that exciting. Shopping, dog walking, sticker books, reading and a film!
Ahhh the time of day you stick a film on, India is napping and I thought to myself,
I could either:
-Have a nap myself
-Do some housework (which is rapidly building up)
-Do a workout
India napped for 20 mins (standard) and I managed to do a 20 minute workout and I felt bloody amazing!
I didn't work particularly hard but enough to get the blood pumping and stimulate my brain.
I find that I am in a much better mental state when I have been active.
I do get rather grouchy when I'm sleep deprived!
Noah is quite full on and even more so since India arrived on the scene and since starting school, he's testing out all kinds of behaviours.
I need to do exercise to be able to be more patient with him and his regular tantrums.
Anyway long story short we had a lovely day even though I hadn't had much sleep.
I felt so much more awake after doing my workout outside and getting sunshine on my face.
I loved it so much, I did another workout once the kids were in bed!
I'm not sure where the energy has come from but it got me through and lifted my mood massively.
There are many professionals in the fitness industry, (me included from time to time) that will tell you not to train when you are sleep deprived.
My advice is though do what makes you feel good.
For me, exercising when tired it's not about the keeping in shape, it's the immense improvement it gives my mental state. I feel lifted and energised.
Anyway just a little something to think about for all the sleep deprived parents out there.
It's not for everyone, but it works for me.
Yes you may not be able to work as hard as you normally can or do it for as long. But whatever you do manage to achieve will feel like exactly that. An achievement!
Now, time to catch some zzzzz
Night,
Rose x
